Observance of the Holy Week
Holy Week is the
traditional observance of the Passion of Jesus Christ. It's a whole
commemoration on how Jesus ended His ministry on Earth. It starts from Palm
Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday.
Palm Sunday
Jesus entered Jerusalem. This is where He
wept after seeing people rejoicing and shouting Hosanna. He wept because He
knows that time is coming. He already know what He will encounter. He knows His
upcoming death that is why He is very sensitive to what is happening around.
Holy Monday
Jesus
at Bethany. One of the known accounts here is when a
sinful woman showered Jesus' feet with perfume.
Cleansing
of the Temple. This is where Jesus got mad because people transformed the
temple into a marketplace and a gambling site.
Cursing
of the Fig Tree. This is when the apostle witnessed how Jesus cursed the fig
tree, made it wither and never yield fruit again.
Holy
Tuesday
This is the day when He predicts His own death in front of the
apostles.
Holy
Wednesday
Also called the account of Judas. This is when Judas met with the
authorities to plan the arrest of Jesus.
Maundy
Thursday
This is when the Last Supper happened. This is also the time that
Jesus prayed and bled in Gethsemane. A few hours after, there was a commotion
and the authorities arrested Him.
Good
Friday
The suffering in Calvary. Jesus died on the cross. This is when
the temple was divided into two as prophesied by Jesus. This is the day when
Peter denied Jesus three times.
Black
Saturday
A day of mourning. Apostles are hiding. They don't know what to
do. They are mourning.
Easter
Sunday
The resurrection of Jesus.
